Bullying

It is never okay to be a bully or to ignore bullying. Together, we can create a safe and respectful environment where everyone feels valued and included.

What is bullying?

Bullying is a harmful behaviour that involves repeated aggression, intentional harm, or imbalance of power in a relationship. It can happen in different forms, such as physical, verbal, or online (cyberbullying). It's important for children and teens to understand what bullying is and how to recognize it…

How to explain to children?

Here's an explanation in child-friendly language:

Bullying is when someone repeatedly hurts or makes fun of another person on purpose. It can happen at school, in the neighbourhood, or even online. Bullying can be hitting, pushing, or taking someone's things without permission. It can also be saying mean things, spreading rumours, or excluding someone from a group. Sometimes, bullies use technology, like phones or computers, to send hurtful messages or share embarrassing pictures.

Bullying is not okay, and nobody deserves to be treated in that way.

Bullying is not okay, and nobody deserves to be treated in that way. It can make people feel sad, scared, or angry. It's important to remember that bullying is not the fault of the person being bullied. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

What to do?

If you see someone being bullied, it's important to help them. You can be a good friend by standing up against bullying and supporting the person who is being hurt. Tell a trusted adult about what is happening, like a teacher, parent, or school counsellor. They can help stop the bullying and make sure everyone feels safe.

How to manage it?

If you are being bullied, remember that you are not alone. Talk to a trusted adult and let them know what's going on. They can provide support and help find a solution. It's important to stay strong and not let the bully's words or actions define you. Surround yourself with friends who are kind and supportive.

Encourage open communication with children and teens - let them know that they can always reach out to you or other trusted adults if they experience or witness bullying.

As adults, we should teach empathy and promote a culture of kindness as such norms in groups will help prevent bullying and create a positive atmosphere for all.
